Our farm

Rooted at the Oak in Mount Frere

MLG Agri at the Oak is an organic vegetable farm on family land in Mount Frere, Eastern Cape, named for the old oak tree that stands over the fields.

Our story

Family land, put back to work

MLG Agri was started by Lilitha Waqu, founder of Miss Lily Gee Unlimited (Pty) Ltd, to turn family land into a productive commercial farm. The farm is run by Lilitha together with an employed Farm Manager with an agricultural background.

Our goal is simple: grow good food reliably, sell it fairly, and create work close to home.

Where is MLG Agri at the Oak? The farm is in Mount Frere (KwaBhaca), in the Alfred Nzo District of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, with a river close to the farm site.
How we farm

Organic methods, natural fertilisers

Natural fertilisers

We feed the soil with natural, organic inputs instead of chemical fertilisers.

Careful water use

Borehole and tank storage with irrigation planned to use water efficiently.

Data-led planning

Every crop is scheduled and tracked from seedling to harvest so buyers get what was promised.

Our plan

Growing in phases

Phase 1: Lean vegetable farm

High-demand vegetables on up to 3 hectares, with fencing, irrigation, water storage and a packing structure.

Phase 2: Diversified intensive zone

Tunnels for year-round crops, a seedling nursery and poultry, built on top of Phase 1 from Year 2.

Long term: A larger farm

Expanding land and supply to serve more buyers across the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Community

Bringing opportunity to Mvuzi

Part of our strategy is to establish business activity in Mvuzi, a rural area near the farm, so that the farm's growth creates jobs, skills and local spending.
